This discovery holds even more significance as it marks the second of our cabooses to have been featured in Cabins, Crummies, and Hacks. Our transfer caboose, P&LE 565, was showcased in Volume 5, making this find all the more special. It’s truly remarkable to see two of our cars honored in this way.

A Legacy Preserved

Each volume of Cabins, Crummies, and Hacks serves as a tribute to the iconic caboose—the little car that marked the end of every train. These cabooses may not have always been the stars of the show, but they were essential to the operation and safety of the railroad. To see our cabooses, including 518, featured in this series feels like a wonderful connection to the past—a way to share our heritage with future generations.

In a way, these books do more than just document old railcars. They help keep the spirit of historic railroading alive, ensuring that these hardworking cars, with their rich histories and colorful paint schemes, aren’t forgotten. For us, discovering P&LE 518 in Cabins, Crummies, and Hacks is not just about finding a photo—it’s about finding a piece of our past that’s been preserved for all to see and enjoy.
