Leaves, Lights, and Locomotives: A Day at Caboose Falls

CPKC sand hoppers

It was another great day at Caboose Falls. We tackled some of the last fall chores and got into the holiday spirit while enjoying plenty of train action.

The morning started with leaf blowing—a lot of it. We cleared the driveway, trails, and even the areas under the cabooses. Fingers crossed this is the final round for the year. Over at Hobo Camp, we stacked more firewood and added brush to the burn pile.

‘Tis the Season

The festive moment came when we set up the official Caboose Falls Christmas tree in the atrium. Once the lights were on, it really brought the space to life. It’s always fun to see how a simple Christmas tree can make things feel so much cozier.

Railfanning

Of course, a day at Caboose Falls wouldn’t be complete without some train watching, and today didn’t disappoint. Here’s the rundown:

  • Two autorack trains, one heading east and another west.
  • A CPKC sand train rolling east.
  • A BNSF grain train, also eastbound, with a DPU bringing up the rear.
  • A westbound CSX coal train, loaded with AEPX (American Electric Power) hoppers.
  • The oddball of the day—a super short eastbound CSX autorack train (just seven cars) lead by 5455 and 5276, both ES40DC locomotives.

Between the cleanup, the tree setup, and the trains, our day at Caboose Falls was a good mix of work and play. This place always has a way of making even the busiest days feel special.
