We recently received an incredible surprise in the mail—a photo album filled with historical images capturing Caboose Falls’ early evolution. Many of these images showcase the cabooses as they arrived on site, offering a fascinating glimpse into their journey.

This remarkable album brings to life moments we had only imagined before. Among its highlights are photos of P&LE 518, freshly painted in its new Baltimore & Ohio scheme, being delivered and placed on its trucks. Seeing these images, and knowing the challenges of the rugged terrain, underscores the tremendous effort it took to give these pieces of railroad history a new home.
The album also features photographs of the Reserve Mining caboose #17. These images capture the car’s arrival by truck, notably missing its cupola—having been removed for transport due to height restrictions. It’s fascinating to see how these pieces of rolling stock came together, evolving into the Caboose Falls we know and love today.
This treasure trove of history was a generous gift from our new friend, Buck Schleicher. Buck has been an invaluable resource in helping us uncover the early history of Caboose Falls, and we’re deeply grateful for his kindness. His brother, Ed ‘Butch’ Schleicher, was the visionary who built Caboose Falls and laid the groundwork for this amazing place. We are truly blessed to call Buck our friend.
Below are some of the wonderful photographs that Buck sent our way.

We can’t wait to share even more of these photos with visitors and fellow railfans in the months ahead. Caboose Falls is more than just a collection of old cabooses—it’s a story. A story brought to life through the dedication of so many people, past and present.
