Service, Faith, and Passion for Railroads

October 28, 1940 – November 21, 2022

Fr. Edward R. “Butch” Schleicher, founder of Caboose Falls, was a man of many passions—each of them shaped by a deep sense of dedication and service. Seemingly born with a love for trains, Fr. Schleicher was a lifelong rail enthusiast, traveling extensively to visit railroad museums and explore passenger operations across the country. His love for railroading was more than just a hobby; it was a way for him to connect with history and the world around him. Caboose Falls, his proud creation, stands as a testament to that passion, offering a unique and lasting tribute to the legacy of American railroads.

Beyond his love for trains, Fr. Schleicher’s life was defined by his unwavering commitment to both his country and his faith. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, he served his country with honor before transitioning into the priesthood. Ordained as a priest in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Fr. Schleicher served in numerous parishes throughout western Pennsylvania, offering spiritual guidance and support to countless individuals and families.

His final assignment was at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Glenshaw, Pennsylvania, where he was deeply beloved by his parishioners. Fr. Schleicher’s pastoral care extended beyond the pulpit; he was a pillar of the community, known for his kindness, wisdom, and sense of humor. He was also the chaplain of the Knights of Columbus Council 14722, a role that allowed him to further serve the Catholic community and build lasting connections with fellow parishioners.

Through his work with the Church, Community, Military, and Railfaning, Fr. Schleicher left a lasting legacy, touching the lives of many and inspiring others with his example of service, faith, and dedication.
