A few weeks ago, we tested a ‘moss, mold, mildew, and algae’ cleaner called Wet & Forget on one side of 518. I had previously used this product successfully on vinyl siding and was eager to try it on the cabooses. The product is incredibly simple to use. Spray it on and allowed to air dry. Over time, rain and wind will wash the treated area.
The boys, feeling impatient with nature’s pace, started washing the dead algae from 518’s exterior this week. Not many kids get to boast about washing a train!
It was exciting to see how nice the car can look. We will be treating all three of the cabooses with Wet & Forget over the next few weeks.

Door repair for 565 is underway thanks to considerable help from my father-in-law. We’re using the same method to fix 565’s door as we used a few weeks ago on 17’s door.
