It took us a while, but we finally made the decision to remove the retractable screen door from Caboose 565. The screen had definitely seen better days. It wasn’t functioning as it should and, unfortunately, had become a cozy hideout for stink bugs!
Armed with our trusty DeWalt, Christian made quick work of the removal process, clearing the way for new possibilities.
Stink bugs weren’t the only evictions of the day. We also scraped away the mud dauber wasp nests that had been constructed in 565’s window frames.
One of the weekend’s highlights was hosting a family luncheon with some first-time visitors. The air was filled with delicious aromas of Hungarian sausage and laughter as we gathered to share stories about Caboose Falls and its rich history. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect, reminisce, and introduce newcomers to the charm of our beloved cabooses.
Of course, no visit to Caboose Falls would be complete without a little train watching. With the afternoon sun shining down, we were thrilled to spot a Kansas City Southern (CPKC) locomotive leading a line of covered hoppers. This was CSX train B454-01.
This weekend reminded us of the true magic of Caboose Falls—whether through the cheerful conversations during our luncheon or the shared excitement of passing trains, it’s the community and connection that make this place special.
